Little Cayman Community Rallies Round
Even though Little Cayman is famous for crystal clear water and beautiful white sand, the occasional strong tidal surge can leave one of the world’s most beautiful beaches in need of attention.
However, the residents of Little Cayman prove yet again why they have some of the best beaches in the world when they organized a community clean up to remove the flotsam and jetsam that washed up on their shoreline.
People of Little Cayman were encouraged to meet at Southern Cross Club at 9am to head toward Point of Sand and Jackson’s Blight in an operation that was entitled ‘Beers, Burgers and Dogs’.
“Just a little play on the free hotdogs that were provided and the fact that we encouraged the local dog owners to come out too,” says Neil van Niekerk of Southern Cross.
“Point of Sand was one of the turtle nesting beaches in July 2011 and it is expected that this year the turtles will once again nest there."
The day was a massive success with a great turnout, which proved yet again that the local residents take pride in their natural assets and are more than happy to get together for the benefit of the island.
It is this community spirit and local pride that ensures that Little Cayman remains the jewel in the Cayman Islands crown.
